The Shape of Trousers to Come

Consider it official. The ultra, ultra skinny squeeze is utterly, utterly over. Pants are no longer second skin. They are more relaxed, sometimes voluminous and gasp- one may actually consume dinner (and we do not mean spinach, hold the dressing) in them. Higher waisted, less fitted and a snap to pull off, designers from Theory to Helmut Lang to Chanel are embracing a slouchier, more nonchalant silhouette. Crafted from textiles with perfect drape (jersey, silks) or straight and narrow as opposed to airtight, the new shape is a welcome sartorial shift. Fall’s simple sweaters, stark collars, trenches and blazers are a stellar match.
