Just like style trends, diets are endlessly discussed, dissected, followed and abandoned. Few have been as hotly debated as the current juicing craze – with the promises of glowing skin, weight loss and non-stop vigor. We’re hardly experts (though we do enjoy a green juice now and then), but everyone at BC is completely smoothie mad. Fresh, full of flavor and literally packed with goodness, we always make our own to avoid the inevitable addition of sugar. Here is one of the front-runners. It’s full of everything that’s good for you.
¾ cup almond milk (or coconut water to mix things up)
1 medium banana, previously peeled, sliced, and frozen
1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
1 cup frozen mango chunks
2 heaping cups kale, shredded
1 heaping cup spinach, shredded
1 heaping tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
1 heaping tablespoon of wheatgrass - we like the berry flavoured version (optional)
Lime wedges (optional, for garnish)
Use a powerful blender like a Vitamix or Kitchen Aid. Add all of the ingredients to the blender in the order listed. Blend on high for a minimum of three minutes or until smooth. Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed. Add more milk if the smoothie is too thick. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to ten hours.
