Just by chance, one rainy evening a week ago, we stumbled onto Coco Avant Chanel, the French film directed by Anne Fontaine and starring the genetically blessed Audrey Tatou. We saw it immediately upon release (of course), but the re-watch was extra inspiring. Spanning the designer’s early years from small town seamstress and singer, to sophisticate and style sensation, the piece is a touching and tragic, as well as a beautifully rendered look at a life well spent. It’s captivating, aesthetically faultless and all in French. We recommend a repeat.
